The Scottish Invasive Species Initiative are looking to recruit volunteers to monitor mink rafts and traps in Lochalsh and Wester Ross and so expand its mink control work in the area.

American mink are an invasive non-native species, which can have devastating effects on native wildlife, particularly water voles and ground-nesting birds vulnerable to predation. By volunteering you can help conserve native biodiversity and protect wildlife in your local area.
The project is increasingly using technology to help operate traps across the north of Scotland. Phone and email notifications are sent when traps are triggered and this reduces the time required of volunteers. So, getting involved need not take much of your time - if there is a phone signal at the trap location.
Anyone can volunteer - no previous experience required - the Initiative will provide all necessary training and equipment. If you might be qualified and interested in supporting mink despatch locally then the project would be particularly keen to hear from you.
